So what's going on with the British election, other than Emma getting angry at the fact that she's days too young to vote.
I'm hearing something about a possible hung parliament. That doesn't sound pleasant.

lol well our system is first past the post, so the first party to get to 326 seats wins and NOBODY GOT THERE. lmao! So we have a hung parliament with no majority. Conservatives got 305, Labour got 258 and Lib Dems got 57. So they have to share or coallition. BBC is a great source of info for all of this: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/election_2010/default.stmSad about my Lib Dems. They did come second in my constituency which is better than predicted, though. Eh.

So now what's going on is the Conservatives have offered to coalition with the Lib Dems, so they combine their seats and together they get enough for a majority. HOW ABOUT NO YOUR VIEWS ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT. I will lose all respect for the Libs if they do it.
Also in hilarious news some of the really, really senior MPs have lost their seats. Jacqui Smith (first ever female Home Secretary, but was involved in the expenses scandal), Charles Clarke (ex Home Secretary for Labour, his seat went to a Lib Dem) and Lembit Opik (pretty well known Lib Dem MP) so really nothing was guaranteed.

Apparently I registered a day too late to vote. I love our country's postal service.

Oh no, that sucks! I have to re-register to vote sometime, that reminds me - there's some evil people running for Governor I need to vote futiley against. Futiley is a word, right?
Anyway, thanks for the BBC link! That coalition sounds sketchy - it would never, ever, ever go down in America b/c people would be furious that the other side was working with the 'enemy' - there would just be gridlock, kind of like what happens now because the Democrats have no balls.
Who are those third party people? Someone won a seat from the 'Green' party? Some are from North Ireland, right? It says that if all those non-Conservative people get together they'd be 6 short a majority but could still govern as a 'minority'? How does that work? I can't believe some party leaders just get together and decide who will run the country, yikes.
And David Cameron looks like a douche.
British election aside - have you heard what happened in Arizona? I mean I'd believe it of a Southern state or Texas, though I knew the government/politics there was always kind of crazy, but good Lord.

Yeah it's totally sketchy. We didn't even vote Gordon Brown in either. We voted Tony Blair in, then he stepped down mid-term, then Gordon Brown stepped up and we hadn't chosen him!!
And yes I did hear about Arizona. That's so awful and so racist. It's just an excuse to pester people who aren't white!
Did you hear about John McCain saying he didn't think the Miranda rights should be read to that man accused of the NY bomb? He was an American citizen who wasn't proven guilty yet, but he didn't think they were entitled to their rights! Blatantly it's because the man was Iraqi-American. And McCain could've been president!!

Bless him, though. I think he is a good person aside of the politics, which is more than I can say for Cameron.
I'm so pissed at Nick Clegg though. A Liberal-Conservative alliance doesn't even semantically make sense! Do not do it.

but I just read that Gordon is staying as part of the deal with the Labour party? Maybe I read wrong.
Yeah two extremes trying to govern together does not seem like a good idea.
I wish we could 'like' things too!

LOL I like the illustrations, and that's interesting about electoral reform - in America we have it both ways, with the number of congressmen decided by population and then two sentators for each state, so that way the highly populated states don't get all the power - I thought Britain did it that way too, with the House of Lords? I fail so hard at politics, I'm gonna go read some wikipedia - though I do understand the hung parliament business now, so what's the latest thought on what parties will work together?

House of Lords are all hereditary peers (they get in based on their family) it is fucked up and stupid and they should all go away because they're mostly old and conservative
